About Us
Introduction to Loraine
On 21st March 2023, my beautiful son died of inoperable brain
tumours, after being diagnosed only two months earlier. There is no
trace of cancer in our families and it was a complete and devasting
shock.
Four days later, on 25th March, I was banned from seeing his two
children who, previously, I had been close to. My beautiful boy would
be destroyed at this turn of events. So determined to turn a negative into a positive I started up a group for grandparents who, for whatever reason, are subject to broken relationships with their grandchildren and end up in a similar situation to myself. Grandchildren should be allowed the choice of whether or not they see their grandparents without their resident parents’ intervention. This kind of attitude can make the child anxious and terrified to even mention their beloved grandparents. Grandchildren should NEVER be weaponised or deprived of a loving, safe and caring relationship with their grandparents.
The main purpose of my group, apart from providing support to other
grandparents, is to have enshrined in UK law for grandchildren to
have the right to a relationship with their grandparents should they wish
to do so, this right should not be taken away from them; it is abuse in its
worst form.
I hope, in time and due to the size of Northumberland, that the group
will spread North and West of the county. I should also like to invite
speakers to my group to educate and disseminate valuable information
to those grandparents who attend my sessions.
I look forward to seeing you at our venue.
